I don't actually use any of his magic, but since Rune may bring it up in conversations (he does enjoy he can use it), here's a list so you can figure out what the heck he is talking about!

AROWS -  Awakens sleeping characters. - Party effect.
REVER - Can revive a teammate with 1/4 maximum HP.  Does not work on robots, only organic life. - 1 person at a time
FOI - Fire-based technique, causing a small flame to erupt on the enemy. - 1 enemy at a time
WAT - Weak water-based technique, this creates a shard of ice which pierces the enemy.  - 1 enemy at a time.
GRA - A gravity-baed technique, it uses gravity to crush enemies.  Not super-powerful it won't crush them completely, just press down on them for damage. - All enemies
GIWAT -Meidum water-based technique, this fires three shards of ice at the enemy. - 1 enemy at a time.
GIFOI - A medium fire-based technique, this throws three fireballs at the enemy. - 1 enemy at a time.
GIGRA - A gravity-baed technique, it uses gravity to crush enemies.  Of medium power it won't crush them completely, but the enemies may begin to feel bones start to grind together some, and other internal organs be pressed together where they shouldn't. - All enemies
NAFOI - Strongest of the fire-based techiques, creates a pillar of fire on the enemy to burn them. - 1  enemy at a time.
NAWAT - Strongest of the water-based techniques, it throws many shards of ice from all sides to pierce the enemy. - 1 enemy at a time.
NAGRA - A gravity-baed technique, it uses gravity to crush enemies.  Of very high power, this technique can flatten an enemy if they are hit with it dead on, crushing bones and internal organs. - All enemies
HINAS - This technique allows the party to escape dungeons, returning to their entrance. - Party Affect
RYUKA -This technique allows the party to travel to previously visited towns. - Party Affect
SEALS - This technique seals enemy techniques if it hits.  - All Enemies
FLAELI - Using four small spheres of fire, Rune throws them simultaneously into an enemy, causing a lot of damage. - 1 enemy at a time
HEWN - A vortex of wind is created around an enemy, slicing them with several razor-sharp lashes to cause damage. - 1 enemy at a time
DIEM - This spell pulls life from an enemy, and can cause instant death. - 1 enemy at a time
TANDLE - An electric-based spell, Tandle causes multiple bolts of lightning to strike the target, causing severe damage. - 1 enemy at a time
EFESS - A magic spell that calls energy from the heavens to slam a beam of pure light onto each enemy. - All enemies
NEGATIS - Like Diem, this spell pulls life from enemies, but it hits all of them instead of one.  Can cause instant death. - All enemies
LEGEON - This spell is radiation-based, and one of Rune's most powerful.  The intense radiation can kill most enemies. - All enemies

Note:  The section presented below deals with the events not in game, and are made up of three things: (1) Head canon, (2) In-game hints or comments and (3) Little pieces from the various world books that could be found.  At a later time, I may write a full synopsis of his history within the game itself, but for now, a link to the Phantasy Star Wikia is provided for the curious.

Rune grew up on the planet of Dezolis, the coldest of the two remaining planets in the Algo Solar Star System (Parma was destroyed a thousand years ago, and only Dezolis and Motavia remain).  Early into his life, it was obvious Rune had the makings of an Esper, and thus began to study in the Esper Mansion.

A quick study, Rune became the inheritor of Lutz's will, also known as Lutz the Fifth, by the age of fifteen years old.  None of this was because he was directly trying, but Lutz' will chose him.  For what reasons, it is never clear, although likely it relates to the fact that Rune was a very intelligent and serious boy, who, despite his outside barbs, was also very compassionate.  He also had the magical ability needed to fill the position.

Once done with his training at the Esper Mansion, and endowed with Lutz' spirit, Rune found his way to Motavia to continue training.  Listed as ascetic training, Rune followed most rules, although once he met up with Alys, and the Hunter Galf, his youthfullness was allowed some free reign.

His bond with the two starting out mostly serious, it did not take long for Rune to begin to feel something more towards Alys, although what it was he was far from wanting to admit, even if he had a vague idea.  This meant he spent much of his time from fifteen on throwing things at Alys, such as spiders, snakes and toads, just to get a reaction.

Said reactions tended to include her slicing said animals in half before flinging them back at the boy.  However, this entire set of harassment between them probably only solidified their bond, and around the time the two became 17 (Rune) and 16 (Alys), teenage hormones found their way to the fore.

Thankfully, things remained at kissing and petting, before Galf caught the two and sat them down for a long scolding and talk of the birds and the bees.  Little happened from then on, and when Galf eventually died two years later, Rune returned to Dezolis, not to see Alys again for a little over ten years time.

During that time, Rune continued his training in magic and knowledge gathering, spending much of his time with the Dezolisians, despite their strange sense of humor, and attending a ceremony or two when it was necessary - during one of these Kyra was to see him and mistake him as an extremely elegant man.

Somewhere around six years into his return to Dezolis, Rune took another trip back to Motavia in order to hide the Psycho Wand in the Ladea Tower.  This was when he once again met up with a man named  "Grandfather Dorin", the information monger of the small Motavian town of Tonoe, who he'd met during a mission with Alys and Galf while he was younger.  It is entirely possible that Rune may have even been the cause of Dorin managing to learn Alys' measurements, since he would have had to find some way in which to convince the man to hold the staff, other than just by using the name of Lutz; a fact that, if true, would probably cause pain if Alys were to ever learn.

During this time, Rune was also able to learn that Alys was doing well, and that she'd taken in a young man named Chaz to train.  This fact would aid him years later when he met Alys again, although at the time it was merely a tidbit that made him feel proud of the girl he once knew.

After securing the staff, Rune returned back to Dezolis to continue his studies, and did not return to Motavia until he was around thirty-years old.  Travelling to Tonoe to retrieve the Psycho Wand, he happened to stop by Molcum, which had been destroyed by Zio.  This is where he once again crosses paths with Alys, also meeting Chaz and Hahn at the same time, and accompanies them to Tonoe.
